In progress experts draft: Building around Joey Votto

Reds first baseman Joey Votto played in 111 games and hit just 14 home runs last season because of a knee injury. However, he's expected to be fully healthy for spring training.
  • KFFL.Com experts league features a slow draft with explanations for every pick.
  • Angels outfielder Mike Trout was the first player taken in the 12-team draft.
  • After the usual suspects went in first six picks%2C Reds first baseman Joey Votto was next at No. 7.
  • As fantasy owners begin preparations for their drafts, it’s often helpful to check out some of the results from experts drafts that mirror their own league settings.

Each year, KFFL.Com holds a 12-team slow draft that begins in mid-February in which every expert explains the reasons for making each pick — as they happen.

I had the seventh overall pick — and chose to anchor my team with Reds first baseman Joey Votto over Albert Pujols, Carlos Gonzalez and Prince Fielder. My rationale:.

There seems to be a pretty clear dividing line between the top six players and the rest of the first round. Votto’s skills are rock-solid, but there are those lingering questions surrounding a knee injury that kept him homerless after June 24. Will the power come back? He’s such a great hitter, I’m banking it will.

I’ll continue updating my picks periodically, but make sure to check out KFFL.Com to see all the picks and the reasons behind them. (Incidentally, Mike Trout went No. 1 overall.).
